Entertainment Meets Automotive as 3SS Partners with Faurecia Aptoide Automotive to host “The Car as a New Entertainment Platform” workshop at IBC 2024

3 Screen Solutions (3SS), leading provider of TV and automotive entertainment software solutions, is joining forces with automotive technology specialist Faurecia Aptoide Automotive (FAA) to host a workshop at the International Broadcasting Convention (IBC 2024) dedicated to in-car entertainment.

Aiming at sparking cross-industry dialogue and exchanging innovative ideas, FAA and 3SS will bring together automakers and content providers, including major streaming services, to discuss the role of the car’s potential as the next significant platform for consumer entertainment.

The organisers hope that attendees will seize the opportunity to share insights and strategies for accelerating the adoption of content in the car.

This event is supported by the Connected Vehicle Systems Alliance (COVESA), an open, member-driven international technology alliance whose goal is to foster progress in the emergent era of connected vehicles. This includes COVESA’s commitment to help fast-track the development of innovative in-car entertainment solutions by encouraging collaborative business and technology discourse.

COVESA is the only alliance focused solely on developing common approaches and technologies for connected vehicles, which now account for a growing percentage of vehicles on the road. The group’s mission is to reduce barriers for entertainment content providers to expand into the in-vehicle environment through standardization of technologies and implementation processes.

Stuttgart-based TV user experience specialist 3SS leads the entertainment working group of COVESA. At the event in Amsterdam in September, 3SS and Faurecia will co-host players in the worldwide automotive industry alongside content providers to collaboratively explore the future of in-vehicle entertainment.

Today’s consumers expect to be able to increase the value of time spent in their cars, says Felix Walter, 3SS Head of Automotive.Vehicle manufacturers have recognized the importance of offering engaging services to their customers directly from within the vehicle, seeing it as a significant opportunity to increase revenue and foster connection with their brand,” he adds.

During the workshop, carmakers and content providers can meet, and get a chance to openly discuss and tackle the biggest challenges of making rich, user-centric content more accessible within the automotive industry,” said Walter.

The partners believe that open discussion will go a long way to helping car OEMs and content owners better understand each other’s worlds and learn about their respective commercial and technological priorities and challenges.

We trust that together we can begin to overcome some of the significant technological hurdles that exist when trying to bring appealing entertainment into cars, including the woeful lack of standardization, added Walter, adding, “Our goal is to enable the start of a beautiful, productive friendship between content owners and automakers.”

We encourage content providers attending IBC2024 who are interested in exploring the opportunities to increase their reach by extending their services into vehicles to get in touch, said Walter.

We are extremely excited about this pioneering opportunity for leaders within the broadcasting and content community to meet directly with carmakers and their technology partners to share knowledge and expectations that will contribute to shaping the next generation of in-vehicle entertainment, said Tara Akhavan, BG Software Solutions and Ecosystems VP at FORVIA.

IBC is the world’s largest TV production, broadcasting, and streaming technology convention that takes place every year in Amsterdam. It is annually attended by as many as 50,000 professionals involved in broadcasting and entertainment technology.

Faurecia Aptoide Automotive (FAA) is the market leading automotive apps market provider. In April 2024, FORVIA the world’s seventh-largest automotive technology supplier, assumed full ownership of the 2019-established Joint Venture. The move reinforces its position as the leading player in automotive applications distribution and being a trusted partner for both automakers and apps developers in key automotive markets including North and South America, EU, China, Japan, India, and Korea
